I went to the selection weekend and learnt that our county (Hampshire) had been split into different subcamps most of them were done by the districts that were near each other. So me being from the New Forest I was in the Swedish subcamp along with a lot of my friends. But none of these people were from my Explorer Unit they were from school or they are new friends that I have met there.
On the Friday my parents dropped me off after dinner. I had to carry all my heavy stuff to where I had to get my ID card and had my photo taken. I then got taken to my subcamp and my friends and I put up our tents. After everything was set up we went over to where the rest of the subcamp were sat and did an ABBA quiz because we were Sweden! After the quiz we decorated the marquee in our subcamp with paperchains because our theme was Swedish Christmas.
On Saturday after we woke up and got ready for the day we got given Santa Hats, because Christmas and sang Christmas songs for our parade 🙂 Then we went back to subcamp and had our briefing for the Saturday activities. We spent day doing different activities and we would have been judged on them by different people.
After food we had another briefing for our evening activities. All of the different subcamps were doing a different activity. I spent all of my time at the disco
We were up at 6.30 Sunday morning even though it was a late night. We got ready for the day and had another briefing for Sunday morning which consisted of more activities we were being judged on. After the activities we had another briefing where we had to pack up our camp and then we had yet another briefing where we did lost property and we were told when we would find out the results of the weekend. Then it was time to go home.
